Who are we?

The genetics program at Gallaudet University has provided services for more than 20 years.  Our program serves as a resource for all those who are interested in learning more about the cause of their deafness.  The director and staff are skilled in American Sign Language.

The program is directed by Dr. Kathleen Arnos and is staffed by two genetic counselors, Ms. Ginger Norris and Ms. Chana Esther Fogel. 


Dr. Kathleen Arnos is a medical geneticist and Professor of Biology at Gallaudet University.  She directs the research and clinical activities of the Gallaudet Genetics Program, which she established in 1983.  She obtained a Ph.D. in Human Genetics from the Medical College of Virginia.

Ginger Norris is a genetic counselor at Gallaudet University and the coordinator for the Gallaudet Genetics Clinic.  She is responsible for providing genetic counseling and coordinating follow-up for deaf and hard of hearing clients.  Additionally, she is the research coordinator for the project Genetic Deafness in the Alumni of Gallaudet University.  She obtained her Master's of Genetic Counseling degree from the University of Maryland.

Chana Esther Fogel is a genetic counselor at Gallaudet University.  She is involved in all research and clinical activities of the genetics program.  She obtained her Master's of Genetic Counseling degree from the University of Maryland.
