Verb patterns 4 and 5

Short Answer Questions

1. Type in the correct form of the verb in parentheses.

2. You must type the sentence completely and correctly.
Please permit John (have) your book.

3. Don't type in the parentheses.

RULE: The verbs 'allow' and 'permit' use a 'to' plus a verb if they have a verb following them. That is the infinitive form of the verb.

RULE: The verbs 'make, let, help' just use the simple form of the verb if a verb follows them. This is the infinitive form WITHOUT the 'to.'

HINT: The first verb can be in any tense; these rules control the next verb.

NOTE that you can have more than one verb that needs to be controlled by the rules.
